Diamond Star Ms. Maricel Soriano is now a Kapuso as she signed a contract for a primetime soap opera with GMA Network, Inc.
The contract signing was held today at the GMA Network Center and attended by the top officers of the Network.
Present in the contract signing were GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, GMA Entertainment TV’s Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable, GMA Vice President for Entertainment TV Marivin T. Arayata, GMA Vice President for Drama Productions Redgie Acuña-Magno, GMA Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications Angela Javier-Cruz, GMA Assistant Vice President for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Program Manager for ETV Redgynn Alba and Ms. Maricel’s manager Shirley Kuan.
Ms. Maricel, one of the country’s most respected and multi-awarded television actresses, is part of the network’s upcoming primetime drama series with a working title Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real.
The Diamond Star says her role in Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real is very challenging and she looks forward to work with Primetime King Dingdong Dantes and Kapuso Premier Actress Lovi Poe, “Excited na excited ako kasi maganda yung story.
As she officially becomes part of the Kapuso Network, Ms. Maricel wants to start anew and be an inspiration to her fans and supporters. She feels very honored and excited about this new chapter in her life as a Kapuso, “Lahat tayo pwedeng mag-move on. Positive na lahat. Gusto ko maging happy ako. At gusto ko silang lahat makatrabaho ko. Masarap maging masaya.”
Rasonable says she is very happy that Ms. Maricel is joining GMA’s stable of stars because she is an excellent dramatic actress, “We’re very happy na pumayag siya sa project na ito. We’re looking forward sa tagisan ng acting ng show na ito na dapat abangan ng mga manonood. She is a precious actress na makakadagdag sa drama ng GMA.
Among the Kapuso stars, Ms. Maricel also wishes to work with Dennis Trillo, Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana.
“We went to Poland,” simulang pagkukwento ng magandang aktres.
“I had a fun time. It was a bonding moment with my family.
“I was there for a week.”
“We went to Koszalin, Warsaw and also Berlin,” dagdag niya.
“When I arrived from the airport, I was surprised to see my friends and cousins waiting for me. They missed me raw.
“I’m so happy to see their faces.
“It’s really a nice gesture from Rocco.
“Idea niya lahat ‘yun.”
“Medyo biglaan. I asked help from her bestfriends and we were able to come up with a little surprise barbecue party for her.
“I picked her up from the airport and gave her my surprise birthday gift then we went to her clubhouse. So, may kaunting actingan para ma-surprise siya. I’m so happy that most of her closest friends were there and brought food and stuff for Lovi.
“Lovi was really happy to see everyone and that made me feel so happy also.”
“‘Yung pagod at stress to make it happen, it was all worth it,” nangingiting pahayag pa ng aktor.
“I would rather keep that to myself,” natatawang sagot ni Lovi.
“He’s the closest guy in my life right now. That’s all I can say,” matipid na sagot ng dalaga.
Lovi Poe, sexy, elegant and innocent ang projection!
“I have prepared a birthday production sa Sunday All Stars.”
“The usual Lovi Poe prod. A mix of sexy, elegant but still lovely and innocent. Ha! Ha!
“It’s a small way of thanking them for always being there for me. They are also my inspiration kung bakit ko lalong pinagbubutihan ang craft ko.
“I owe it to them.”
More happiness, more projects and more blessings for everyone.”
“I want to have a balanced life when I’m in love. I want to be still in control of my life and not be carried away.”
“Alam mo, I’m looking for a guy who would make me laugh. That’s my weakness.
“I really don’t think of guys naman being intimidated. Work is my priority, so I really have no time yet to think about my personal life.”
“The best thing I did for love is to stick to the person I was in love with no matter what.
“The worst thing is when I let the song ‘You and me against the world’ rule my head.
“Well, I guess it’s part of growing up,” pag-amin ni Lovi.
“I’m excited for my new primetime project,” masayang kwento ng award-winning actress.
“It’s going to be my first time to do a teledrama with award winning actors Dingdong Dantes and Ms. Maricel Soriano for Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real. I think it will start around May.”
“Being surrounded by the people I Love makes me happy,” sey na lang ni Lovi.
Award-winning dramatic actor and recording artist Dennis Trillo remains a Kapuso after signing another exclusive contract with GMA Network, Inc.

Dennis started his career in GMA in 2003 and from then on, he was given a variety of TV projects which showcased his versatility and range as an actor. At present, Dennis not only dabbles at acting on the small and big screens but also tries his hand at singing following the success of his record album – TomDen - with fellow Kapuso star Tom Rodriguez. Their album has now reached the Gold record award with over 10,000 units sold in combined digital and CD sales.
Rasonable believes that Dennis is one the most talented and hardworking actors in GMA and she is very happy that Dennis continues to remain loyal to the Kapuso Network, “Sobra kaming nagagalak. More than 10 years na dito si Dennis. Pinili pa rin niyang magstay. It’s a sign that we have a good relationship with him and we’ve nurtured that over the years. Palagi kaming naeenganyo na magbigay sa kanya ng mga projects at mag-isip ng mga roles for him kasi we know he will always deliver. We are excited to give him new projects and offer him something that will still continue his stature as a great dramatic actor.”
Kapuso prime leading ladies Yasmien Kurdi and Max Collins renewed their ties with GMA Network, Inc. The contract signing was held today at the GMA Network Center and attended by top Kapuso officers.
Present in the contract signing were GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, GMA Entertainment TV’s Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable, GMA Vice President for Entertainment TV Marivin T. Arayata, GMA Vice President for Drama Redgie A. Magno, GMA Assistant Vice President for Alternative Productions Gigi Santiago-Lara, GMA Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications Angela Javier-Cruz, GMA Assistant Vice President, Head of Talent Branding, Imaging and Marketing Unit Simoun S. Ferrer, Program Manager for ETV Charles Koo, and Max Collins’ manager Perry Lansigan.
Yasmien said she is very glad and grateful that she is still part of the GMA family, “I’m very happy and thankful. Yasmien signed a three-year exclusive network contract with GMA Network.
Max, on the other hand, is also happy and delighted that she chose to remain as a Kapuso and expresses her excitement on her newest afternoon series Innamorata. “Sobrang proud akong maging isang Kapuso ulit at sobrang happy ako sa bago kong project. I’m so blessed and thankful to be a Kapuso. Innamorata is my first lead role, matagal ko ‘tong pinangarap at hinintay and I’m just thankful that finally malapit na din siyang umere.” Max, who inked an exclusive two-year network contract, is also part of Sunday All Stars.
During the contract signing, Atty. Gozon expressed his admiration and appreciation for the two beautiful and gifted artists of the Kapuso Network, “bihira itong sa loob ng isang hapon ay dalawang magagandang artista ang ating kinokontrata.
Rasonable is very pleased that these two talented dramatic actresses have chosen to stay with the Network and she also shared that the network will continue to line-up good projects for both artists but for the meantime, Yasmien and Max will concentrate on their respective drama series. “For Yasmien, after Rhodora X, of course tuloy tuloy ang trabaho niya sa drama. But as of now, sa Rhodora X lang muna ang concentration niya kasi magaling at maganda ang role niya doon. For Max, she’s going to be starring in the upcoming afternoon drama Innamorata.
I can’t choose the perfect words to express my happiness! Thank you to Abante entertainment editor Dondon Sermino for the opportunity! :)
And yes, he did dahil sa mga dekalidad at hindi malilimutang proyekto at several endorsements, Alden has been elevated to leading man status matapos ang mahigit na tatlong taon sa showbiz.
“Ako, since I started in showbiz, I’ve been dreaming about working with her someday. Akala ko hindi mangyayari kasi she’s a big star, she has a big name at she’s one of the network’s most prized actresses.
“Si Marian has this talent of making people comfortable around her.
She’s full of positivity in life at nararamdaman namin ‘yun sa set.
Alden, aminadong may pagka-bad boy… “All men have their own little secrets. So, I’ll just keep mine. Ha! Ha! Ha!”
From Tisoy, Jerome to Yago?
“It’s a first for me to do a role na mas mature, bad boy, hindi na siya underdog na nachallenge kaya nagsumikap.
“All men have their own little secrets. So, I’ll just keep mine. Ha! Ha!
Sobrang saya na maging on-the cover ng isang magazine which focuses on the health kasi they’ll show how I care and exert effort para magkaroon ng good body and a healthy lifestyle.”
Lovelife naman is just around the corner. It will come sa tamang panahon.”
Multi-talented actress, recording artist, model and TV host Solenn Heussaff remains a Kapuso after she inked an exclusive three-year contract with GMA Network, Inc. The contract signing was held today at the GMA Network Center and attended by top Kapuso officers.
Present in the contract signing were GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, GMA President and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., GMA Entertainment TV Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable, GMA Vice President for Entertainment TV Marivin T. Arayata, GMA Assistant Vice President for Alternative Productions Gigi Santiago-Lara, GMA Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications Angela Javier - Cruz, Entertainment TV Program Manager Charles Koo and Solenn’s manager Leo Dominguez.
During the contract signing, Solenn reveals that she is very happy to renew her contract with GMA 7 which has been her home network for the past three years, “In my family we always believe in remaining loyal to those who support you. Since GMA gave me my first break on TV, kahit I didn’t speak tagalog dati, I never had any experience in showbiz, they gave me the opportunity to be part of showbiz. Naging family na talaga. Even if I had offers from others, I still chose GMA because I started with them and I believe in being loyal.”
Aside from being part of Sunday All Stars and being one of the hosts of Taste Buddies, Solenn now joins the cast of the primetime series Adarna as the beautiful winged Ibong Adarna. She is very happy with her latest TV project on GMA Telebabad and feels very excited to work with Kylie Padilla, Geoff Eigenmann, Mikael Daez, Benjamin Alves, “Sa first taping day pa lang, sobrang easy na. Nung pumasok ako, we are all friends. Fun sa set and they help me with my lines. Very helpful sila.”
Rasonable shared that she is very proud of Solenn’s achievements and the network will continue to provide good projects for her, “Ever since, ipinakita niya how good she is as an artist. She is very easy to work with. There was no doubt that we will renew her. She is going to continue with Sunday All Stars kasi doon napapakita yung musical side niya, and sometimes make up artist din siya for her team. Then she still has the hosting job in GMA News TV. And with what we saw in Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas, definitely we will be giving her more challenging roles.”
On the other hand, Leo said he is very happy with the way GMA is handling Solenn’s career and is confident that the Kapuso network will give her more challenging roles and projects to further hone her acting skills, “I’m so happy because this is where Solenn was discovered. This is where she started her career so it is just right na dito siya mag-grow. I want her to have more drama projects because for me yun na lang ang hindi pa niya masyadong na-e-explore because of her language difficulty pero ngayon that she’s overcoming it slowly. Surely she’s getting there na so I hope to see more of Solenn doing drama.”
This is to clarify that the complainant involved in the Vhong Navarro incident is not related to GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.
From the moment GMA News learned of the story, it sought the side of Vhong Navarro. Chito Rono, his manager, gave
GMA News a written statement, which was aired yesterday. Today, GMA News aired an interview with Navarro’s lawyer Atty Alma Mallonga.
The report about the alleged attempted rape was based on the blotter filed at the Investigative Section of the Southern Police District where Vhong Navarro was taken after the incident. Other news organizations also reported it.
‘Crush ng Bayan’ and one of the Kapuso Network’s top leading men Alden Richards opted to celebrate his 22nd birthday away from the showbiz glitz and spotlight. Yesterday, January 14, Alden treated the kids with an afternoon of fun and merriment at the Holy Trinity Home for Children in Quezon City.
And no, he was not wearing Superman’s red cape but as plain Kuya Alden – armed only with a loving and compassionate heart for the kids.
“Nagpunta ako rito hindi bilang ang artista,” he says in our interview with the Kapuso actor. “Last year, nangako ako sa kanila na bibisitahin kong muli ang Holy Trinity Home for Children.
Generous brands like Belo, Kakao Talk, Skechers, Folded and Hung, Waffle Time, Minute Burger, Zagu and Tous Les Jours supported Alden’s effort in bringing smiles to the kids of Holy Trinity Home for Children.
Apart from his simple but meaningful birthday celebration, Alden is busy taping for his comeback project on primetime television as he acts opposite GMA Primetime Queen Marian Rivera in GMA Network’s “Carmela” which will air beginning January 27.
GMA Artist Center stars make their way to the silver screens as they join several entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
One of the Kapuso Network’s prime leading men Alden Richards portrays the young Robin Padilla in the action-packed movie 10,000 Hours. When asked about his preparations for the fight scenes, “I went through several stamina and gun-handling lessons. On the set, we were also trained by stuntmen. Kaya people should watch 10,000 hours because we really worked hard to offer the viewers a good film this Christmas,” he shares.
Also in 10,000 Hours is Kapuso star Bela Padilla. The actress learned a lot from Robin about acting, “I worked with him before sa isang show ng GMA-7 but sa 10,000 Hours mas marami akong natutunan sa kanya since ang dami naming sequences na magkakasama.”
Rocco Nacino, one of today’s in-demand actors, topbills the movie about Filipino saint Pedro Calungsod. In a recent interview with him, he shared that it is a great opportunity to play the role of someone who has touched so many lives. “I am just hoping that people will watch our movie and that they will appreciate my portrayal as Saint Pedro Calungsod.”
Joining Rocco in the movie are fast-rising young star Juancho Trivino and child actor Marc Justine Alvarez.
Meanwhile, Sef Cadayona grooves to the big screen as he leads MMFF entry Kaleidoscope World, a hip hop dance movie based on Francis Magalona’s music.
Sef expresses his excitement as the MMFF season draws near. “This is my first lead role for MMFF.
According to him, dancing to the music of the Philippines’ Master Rapper is definitely an experience for keeps. “Sir Francis Magalona will always be remembered. Iba yung songs niya at habang sumasayaw kami sa bawat awit niya, sobra mong mararamdaman yung emotions sa bawat kanta. I hope yung songs niya will also be heard by the future generations.”
Tween star Barbie Forteza, on the other hand, joins MMFF entry My Little Bossings. Barbie shares that doing the movie together with Vic Sotto, Ryzza Mae Dizon, and Bimby Aquino-Yap is one of her most unforgettable moments this year.
The Metro Manila Film Festival entries will be shown in all cinemas nationwide beginning December 25.
Seeing the tragic devastation brought by super typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas region is by all means heartbreaking. And for Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, she knew she was not going to take this sitting down, so instead, she took action to help.
On Monday, November 25, Marian traveled to Cebu to help distribute relief goods to those affected by the typhoon as part of the Operation Bayanihan, which was spearheaded by the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) and the Network’s Central and Eastern Visayas station, in the Municipality of Tabogon.
The team was able to serve close to a thousand families in the mountainous communities of Sambag, Canaocanao, and Managasi, which were all located at the Northern part of Cebu.
Upon hearing about GMA Network’s scheduled relief runs in the Visayas, particularly in Cebu, Marian immediately sought out Regional TV and volunteered to become part of it.
Marian knows that apart from the material help, the typhoon victims also needed to draw strength from the people around them.
And the experience, according to Marian, has also brought her personal fulfillment. “Kakaiba ‘yung sense of fulfillment na naramdaman ko the moment I saw them smile.
Apart from Tabogon, GMA TV Central and Eastern Visayas also reached out to the typhoon victims in Bogo, Borbon, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Sogod, Tabuelan, Bantayan Island, Camotes Island, Carnaza Island, and Leyte, serving more than 45,000 families since November 8.
Meanwhile, humanitarian aid have also been mounted by the News and Public Affairs team of GMA TV Iloilo in Carles, Estancia, San Dionisio, and Bingawan, helping close to 7,000 families. Through its programs Ratsada and Arangkada Ang Trip Mo Kun Aga, in coordination with the GMAKF, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6, and the Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas, GMA TV Iloilo conducted medical missions, stress management sessions, and distribution of relief packs to those in need.
Even the Network’s Bacolod station also carried out relief operations dubbed “Bulig Kapuso” to around 5,000 families in typhoon-stricken areas like Cadiz City, Sagay City, Malucaboc Island, Ormoc, and Tacloban, to name a few, which were made possible through the help of various volunteer groups.
Also in assistance are the other regional stations of GMA Network in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Bicol, Ilocos, Dagupan, and GenSan, which are still accepting donations to be re-packed and shipped straight to the typhoon victims.
As of November 27, GMAKF has received more than P195-million of cash and in-kind donations for the victims of Yolanda. GMA Regional TV’s relief runs in Cebu, Iloilo, and other areas will continue until December 13.
Kapuso Premier drama actress Lovi Poe is very excited with her big transformation in GMA Network’s Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas as her character is ready to reclaim what’s rightfully hers after being deceived by the people close to her.
Lovi has to cut her hair short for her character’s makeover (as Lovelia) in the episodes this week, “Almost all my life long hair talaga ako. Actually hindi ko pa nababasa kung paano yung magiging story after that pero nakita ko na kung paano ko sila haharapin, so excited na ako. Then magta-transform ako, it’s like a totally different thing. Magiging matapang na ako.”
Lovi takes her craft as an actress seriously and she didn’t think twice when the production team convinced her to chop off her long locks, “It’s shorter than the usual. Ang tagal na nito, I’m so scared, but kailangan for the show.
More and more viewers are now hooked on the series and the program is expected to set even higher ratings on the coming days especially when Lovelia decides to reveal herself during the baptism of Agatha’s (Charee Pineda) baby. Everyone is shocked to see Lovelia alive. Beatrice (Liza Lorena) is ecstatic that her granddaughter is finally back but Agatha is very upset that Lovelia will divulge her secret affair with Jerry (Rocco Nacino).
But Lovelia hatches a plan and pretends to have selective memory loss. Will Lovelia succeed in her quest for vengeance against Agatha and Jerry?
Meanwhile, Lovi continues to shine as she added another feather in her cap after she received an award from the Federation of Associations of Private Schools and Administrators (FAPSA) Philippines for Excellence in Television Art for her performance in GMA News TV original series -Titser - last November 25 at the Manila Ocean Park.
Akin Pa Rin Ang Bukas airs weeknights after Genesis on GMA Telebabad.

MANILA, Philippines—In the recent Senate hearing when the alleged brains of the pork barrel scam, Janet Lim Napoles, testified, Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago unleashed an unsavory attack on the PR profession saying, “there are press agents, cockroaches or assholes who go around the media, paying journalists to attack the rivals of their bosses or protect their bosses. They buy the media even the editors.”
Santiago was understandably upset by personalities she mentioned during the hearing that reportedly used campaigns to personally attack her.
Let us at the very onset draw the line. The PR profession has been tainted all these years precisely because of the conduct and tactics of personalities who masquerade as practitioners and give the profession a bad name. These are the fly-by-night operators who sprout out in droves especially during the campaign season.
The website of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) so aptly describes the state of PR practitioners saying that “our profession is among the most misunderstood and criticized. Through their high professional and ethical standards, accredited professionals contribute to greater understanding of public relations as a vital management function, and undermine those who would refer to our craft as spin, our professionals as flacks, and our currency as misrepresentation and disinformation.”
When PRSA refers to accredited professionals, they refer to about 5,000 all over the US that have earned the title “APR” or accredited in public relations. In our country, only 46 have earned the title so far since accreditation started in 1995.
What are the benefits of accreditation to begin with? A renowned peer in the industry shares his thoughts saying that an APR is a “confirmation by his peers that he knows the magnitude of his responsibility; that he is ethical; that he has a body of works to prove his competence; that he has proved his worth as counsel for top management; and that he has occupied senior positions and can deliver results.”
The Accreditation program established by PRSA in 1964 is “the profession’s only national post-graduate certification program. It measures a public relations practitioner’s fundamental knowledge of communications theory and its application; establishes advanced capabilities in research, strategic planning, implementation and evaluation; and demonstrates a commitment to a professional excellence and ethical conduct. The skills acquired through the process are applicable to any industry or practice area.”
Candidates are nominated by peers and applications are not honored. After submitting the body of works, there is a meticulous scrutiny of one’s employment record, with great emphasis given to experience in a senior management position. The candidates then go through a seminar followed by a rigorous written examination which takes close to a day to complete. Successful candidates then face the ordeal of an equally tough oral exam.
The Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) is at the forefront of professionalizing the ranks of PR practitioners in the country. We can expect to see the roster grow even further, especially with the establishment of chapters in the regions.
There have been discussions of late on whether there is still a need for the President of the PRSP to be an APR. This has been the practice for the past 18 years, a tradition that a colleague attributes to the quality of leadership. She goes on by saying that passing the APR exam “means you have what it takes to be one (President).”
Should PRSP stand by tradition and allow only an APR to qualify as President, which is what PRSA also requires, or should this rule be scrapped? This will be the subject of a referendum later this month on proposed amendments to the bylaws which were last done in 1998.
I, for one, believe that we should not look elsewhere to see why a PRSP President has to be an APR. While it is a PRSA invention that we have adopted, it has worked well for the Americans for close to half a century and 18 years for PRSP. And this should be good enough moving forward. As the Americans would say, “Why fix it if it ain’t broke?”
This practice is unique to us. It is who we are. It is what we are known for. Let us continue to embrace and cherish it.
